Getting You Back In The Game

The Ohio Valley Sports Medicine program continues to offer an all-inclusive approach to both the education and treatment of area athletes of all levels. Our integrated treatment team of healthcare professionals are dedicated to serving clients of all ages and abilities and working alongside them to help achieve performances at their highest level.

Under the leadership of Program Director, Mike Willets, MS, AT, and Sports Medicine Medical Director Ian Thompson, MD, MS, FAAOS, our highly qualified staff offers expertise focused on conditioning and sports injuries, including prevention, emergency care, clinical diagnosis, therapeutic intervention and rehabilitation. Mike Willets has over 50 years of high school athletic training and leadership experience in the Springfield City Schools, Northwestern Local School District, and Catholic Central High School. Dr. Ian Thompson is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon, a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (FAAOS) and is recognized as a Surgeon of Excellence in Joint Replacement Surgery by the SRC.

Working as a team with your primary care provider, our orthopedic physicians partner with radiologists, spine specialists, interventional pain medicine specialists, podiatrists, athletic trainers, imaging professionals, and physical therapists to get you back in the game as quickly and safely as possible.

Walk-In Injury Clinic

Our Walk-In Injury Clinic is a convenient option for those dealing with the inconvenience of an injury. Whether through physical activity, sports or just through the mishaps of your day to day, our goal is to help you get back on your feet. All injuries are evaluated and, if needed, referred to other appropriate medical practitioners.

Common Injuries Assessed:

  • Lower leg injuries (i.e. ankle sprains, bone & stress fractures, knee injuries, etc.)
  • Concussions
  • Hand & wrist injuries
  • Shoulder injuries
  • Overuse injuries
  • Back injuries

Both adults and student athletes are welcome. Please call 937.521.4960. Our Hours are Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. with special Saturday hours during the fall, and our clinic is located at 140 West Main Street, 3rd Floor, Springfield, OH 45502.

 

Sports Injury Helpline

To reach our helpline, please call 937.521.4960 Monday-Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and one of our athletic trainers or physical therapists will address your questions and concerns and provide suggestions on next steps. After business hours, please leave a message, and we will return your call the next business day.

 

Comprehensive Concussion Care

Ohio Valley takes a comprehensive approach to concussion care. Our team consists of expert trained healthcare professionals including: Hillary Oaks, APRN-CNP who has extensive knowledge and experience in concussion management, our athletic trainers and our certified Vestibular Physical Therapists. Our goal is to evaluate and treat patients who are suffering from a concussion through:

  • ImPACT trained Athletic Trainers
  • ImPACT Concussion Testing & evaluation of athletes
  • Referral for additional services
  • Vestibular Physical Therapy
  • Medical Practitioners
  • Individualized concussion management
  • Return-to-Learn/Return-to-Play Law: The Ohio General Assembly recently passed the “Return to Play Law” designed to protect young athletes from undiagnosed or mishandled concussions. As a community service offered by Ohio Valley, our certified ImPACT Trained Athletic Trainers educate and train athletes, parents, coaches and officials about concussion safety and awareness, as well as the implications of this law.

 

Safe Sports School

We are proud to partner with numerous schools and other organizations in our community. Each of these schools are nationally recognized by the National Athletic Trainer’s Association as Safe Sports Schools. This recognition means that we have met the highest standards set out for athlete safety, injury prevention and more.

Ohio Valley is partnered with the following safe schools: Catholic Central High School, Kenton Ridge High School, Northeastern High School, Northwestern High School, Shawnee High School, Southeastern High School, Greenon High School, Tecumseh High School and Emmanuel Christian Academy.

 

College Preceptorship Program
